DENVER (AP) ― Coloradans can keep tabs on debates on the floor of the state House of Representatives, even if they are not in Denver.
Live broadcasts are available on cable television and the Internet at
coloradochannel.net. They were first offered Monday afternoon.
The show broadcast on Comcast is called "Colorado Open House."
"We're all excited that the public will now have an opportunity to watch us in action, and I think that we'll all be on our best behavior," Rep. Claire Levy said.
Sessions will be archived.
House Speaker Andrew Romanoff said plans are in the works to eventually add the Senate and committee hearings.
Some lawmakers were already playing to the new camera, but Romanoff said that is to be expected when politicians are involved.
"People were playing to the galleries even when there was nobody watching," Romanoff said. "I think decorum will improve. The transparency of the process will make us more accountable and maybe more respectful of one another."
"If I were working with the networks, I'd be terrified right now," Rep. Jack Pommer joked. "First the writer's strike, now they have the Colorado General Assembly on TV. I'd say prime-time is finished."
Previously, audio broadcasts of the House and Senate were offered.
